Would you consider these buildings masculine or feminine?![]() ![]() ![]() Experiencial Space
The title of my project is Feminine spaces. I want the
project to conclude with me creating a feminine space that is solely an
experience. This relates to the pathway stage because I have recently focused
on buildings and their purposes. This allowed me to become interested in distinguishing
whether buildings had a gender and how their interior and exterior can be
categorised as having male or female qualities. By continuing with this theme,
I hope to gather a substantial amount of research that will lead me to
proposing and creating my own space.

I will use ''Sketch up'' to propose ideas for the space. I
hope to make basic card and paper models to develop my initial ideas and then
develop this further by making a series of mature and detailed models in the
wood workshop. In terms of material, I want to use transparent and obscured materials
in order to evoke the idea of underlying meanings in feminism. I want to create
a series of experiences that cater for all views on
feminism. The spaces I will propose will not be communal. I want to create an
experience that creates reactions and forces people to look at different views
on the matter.
Week 1
Review with Dave - Discussed whether the space would be a forced experience or a personal, chosen experience that is controlled by the visitor.
Review with Joe Hartley - Discussed the idea of creating a sensual space that can be occupied. It could be a multi-sensory experience. Sound, taste, smell, touch, sight. Filling a space with feminine objects could make the space feminine but need to consider creating the space without direct intention.
Week 2
Review with Elle - We talked about how I could make the space empty and provide a range of objects on the outside that the visitors choose from and take into the space. Therefore, the objects characterise the space.
Review with Dave - We looked at feminine interiors on the internet and removed any part of the structure that I considered not feminine. This was a very important stage in my project as it ultimately left me with completely feminine structures and forms to work with.
Open space and clouds
I want to create a tent - like interior space that will become a feminine experience. Through the research I have gathered, I have come to a conclusion that open space and the idea of being surrounded by sky and clouds is comforting and relaxing to females.
